Traffic Jam
A traffic jam is a very common and frustrating problem in the big cities of Bangladesh, especially in Dhaka. It happens when a large number of vehicles get stuck on the road, blocking each other so that no one can move forward. During rush hours, like early morning when schools and offices start, and in the evening when they close, roads become completely paralyzed.
There are many reasons behind this painful problem. The main cause is that our population and the number of vehicles are increasing much faster than our roads. Furthermore, narrow streets, broken roads, and illegal parking on the roadsides make the situation worse. Many drivers do not follow traffic rules, drive recklessly, and try to overtake each other blindly. Slow-moving vehicles, like rickshaws and vans, often share the same roads with fast-moving buses and cars, which slows down the entire flow of traffic.
A traffic jam causes great suffering to the public. It wastes a massive amount of valuable time and energy. Students cannot reach their schools on time, office workers get late, and worst of all, ambulances carrying serious patients get stuck on the streets. It also causes heavy air and noise pollution. To solve this problem, the government needs to build wider roads, flyovers, and better public transport systems like the Metro Rail. Drivers must also be trained to obey traffic laws strictly so that everyone can travel safely and quickly.
