The Justice of Quazi
Long ago, there was a Sultan in Bengal. His name was Giasuddin Azam. His capital was Sonargaon near Dhaka. He was a very just and kind ruler. The Sultan’s hobby was hunting. Very often, he went hunting.
One day, he went hunting deer in a jungle. Aiming at a fawn, he shot an arrow but missed. Instead of the fawn, the arrow pierced a boy who was the only son of a widow.
At this, the widow was greatly shocked. She brought a charge against the Sultan to the Quazi. The Quazi asked the Sultan to make the widow happy. The Sultan compensated for this guilt, and the widow became pleased.
Then the Quazi embraced the Sultan. He said that had the Sultan disobeyed him, he would have punished him. The Sultan also said that if the Quazi had failed to do justice, he would have beaten the Quazi. Then the two great men became friends and remained so forever.

Gias Uddin Azam Shah was a great ruler of Bengal. He was very kind and just. He was fond of hunting. One day, he went hunting in a nearby jungle. He aimed at a fawn but missed. The arrow pierced a boy, who died instantly.
The boy was the only son of a widow. The widow was greatly shocked. She went to the Kazi and prayed to him for justice. The Kazi was a brave judge of the time. He never feared anybody while discharging his duties properly. The Kazi asked the Sultan to appear before him.
When the Sultan appeared before the court, the Kazi asked him to make the widow happy. The Sultan compensated for this guilt, and the widow became pleased. Then the Kazi embraced the Sultan and said that if he (Sultan) disobeyed him, he would punish him (Sultan).
The Sultan also said that if the Kazi failed to do justice, he was also ready to punish him (Kazi). Thus, the Judiciary of the then Bengal was free and fair, and the rulers of the land were also just and noble.

If he did justice to the widow, the Sultan might be displeased. Again, if he did not do it, he would remain guilty to the widow and to Almighty Allah.
At last, he made up his mind to bring the Sultan to justice. The Sultan stood before the Kazi. The Kazi asked him whether the complaint was true. The Sultan answered in the affirmative, and he was ordered to compensate for the loss.
The Sultan agreed and compensated the widow. The Kazi thanked the Sultan for his sense of duty. The Sultan also thanked the Kazi for his justice.
